If you own a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram vehicle with an 8.4-inch touchscreen, beware of bubbles.

Not the fun bubbles, we’re referring to delamination bubbles that make your vehicle touchscreen visually unattractive, and eventually make the infotainment interface unusable.

More and more owners have begun to complain about bubbles appearing on their 8.4-inch touchscreen. In addition to the bubbles, over time, the adhesive used to attach the touchscreen’s protective film begins to leak.

While the screen bubbling presents a problem, the dripping glue may become the bigger issue for vehicle owners. The glue can begin to leak in copious amounts, damaging air conditioner controls and interior.

The problem of delamination seems to be very wide-spread based on anecdotal evidence via forums and Google searches.

So how can the problem be fixed? That’s a great question.

Our NavRepair division has mastered repair for UConnect infotainment systems. They’ve replaced entire screens, and the issue happens on the replacement screens. So that may be an indication of a manufacturing defect.

Again based upon anecdotal evidence from forums and owner experiences, dealers will replace the radio as part of the warranty. Past that, we haven’t heard anything about outcomes.

If the issue continues, hopefully FCA will provide a free of replacement solution. But don’t count on that scenario.

Cadillac experienced issues related to faulty touchscreen. After customer complaints and even a class action suit, GM refused to replace the radios.

Looks like we’ll have to wait and see.
